On the 13th of April 2023 ACRE opens its doors for the first time to the public with its inaugural exhibition BOOKS & OTHERS.

Located at 54b Skalitzer Straße, a 2000m long street in the district of Kreuzberg, ACRE is housed in what was once a Kekse and Süsswaren shop where traces of its previous use can be seen in its window display. Dedicated to artistic experimentation, ACRE hosts a studio residency programme for artistic research and practice and invited the British/German artist Rahel Zoller to activate the space.

For the opening of BOOKS & OTHERS two dinners were hosted by Zoller, inviting Berlin based artists and publishers dedicated to the book as an independent art form. A place where strangers met and where stories were shared. Each guest brought a book of their choosing to talk about. Forming the beginning of a library of ACRE and displayed in the space at BOOKS & OTHERS. The books are arranged on ceramic book supports that have been created for the exhibition by Katharina Siegel and Rahel Zoller, juxtaposing a book dummy “Bookstand” with illustrations from the Library Bureau 1891, which will be released at Miss Read later this year.

For BOOKS & OTHERS a special artist edition of placemats was printed with Office Offset for ACRE alongside a postcard “Sweet Greetings from Berlin Kreuzberg” from the sweet shops of the neighborhood.
