Alpine Cartographies of Climate Change

Drawing from the most recent results of Italian Limes ongoing research, the book A Moving Border. Alpine Cartographies of Climate Change reflects on how borders are both material and imagined and on the ways global warming challenges Western conceptions of territory. Even more, it provides a blueprint for spatial intervention in a world where ecological processes are bound to dominate geopolitical affairs.

A wide-ranging investigation into the constructed landscapes of Alpine border regions, the book challenges and exposes the cartographic regimes of modern nation-states in the era of climate crisis and disappearing glaciers.

Drawing on an extensive selection of archival materials from Italy’s Istituto Geografico Militare, it examines the border as a territorial, political, technological, and environmental architecture.

A Moving Border is co-authored and by Studio Folder – which took also care of its editorial design – and Andrea Bagnato.

It features a foreword by Bruno Latour with texts by Stuart Elden, Mia Fuller, Francesca Hughes and Wu Ming 1 and is co-published by Columbia Books on Architecture and the City and ZKM – Center for Art and Media.
